Business as Usual

Business as Usual

It’s hard to believe 1 year ago I was sitting in Muhanga Rwanda learning how to make an Azizi Life basket with the ladies. I remember that day so well. We were sitting on a mat leaning against a house, laughing, singing, and weaving. The weather was perfect and the sun was out. Days later as I was walking through the airport to go home, things were already changing. I remember receiving a message from Lou, “Are you alright? Do you have a mask?” What are you talking about? “COVID-19. They are shutting down flights to and from China. This is serious!” I didn’t have a mask and no one was wearing one. Little did I know that would be my last trip before the world started shutting down.
Covid has changed and will continue to change how we do business in The Marketplace. We pivoted to being fully online. We began designing more via Zoom and while shipping and sourcing raw materials have been difficult, we continued to empower people and change lives. We have just learned to be a bit more patient.
Will I travel internationally again? I have no doubt I will. But as I wait for the world to heal and open back up, I continue to do my part to help our artisans around the world. Thank you for joining me on this journey to empower people and change lives. I couldn’t do it without you and I wouldn’t even want to try.
