Defining Moments

Defining moment is a point in your life when you experience something that fundamentally changes you.

We all have defining moments that if we trace back we can see where God planted a seed that He would water over time to be who He has created us to be. 

My moment was when I was 7 years old standing outside of Subic Bay Naval Base in the Philippines. There were kids my age in the brown water below shouting at us to throw coins. I remember asking my mom for some change and giving it to them. 

Being from a military family, I lived in Thailand and the Philippines and saw poverty 1st hand. I was born with opportunity where being a girl didn’t mean not receiving an education. I earned a BSBA in finance from the University of Florida.

Fast forward 30 years and the memory of being that little girl was still fresh. What separated me from the kids I was throwing money to was where God placed me. 

From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and for the one who has been entrusted with much, much will be asked. Luke 12:48. 

I knew that I was supposed to use my gifts to advocate for the poor, for those kids in the brown water. The Marketplace wasn’t created because it’s been my lifelong dream to open a store. It was created to empower artisans around the world and change lives.
