Do everything in love. 1 Corinthians 16:14
A couple of days ago the State Department reinstated a Level 4 Travel Advisory for Haiti. What does that mean? It’s the highest level: do not travel. What does it mean to the country? No tourism or mission teams. When there is no money coming into a country, the economy suffers, people lose their jobs, organizations are unable to pay their employees, and people do not have money to buy food. In 2019, Haiti spent just about the entire year on a Level 4 and when they went to a Level 3 and the political rest began to subside, all of us got excited. We felt change was coming and then they shut down Carnival due to political demonstrations and here we are back at a Level 4. Very little is being said in the media but we have been talking to our groups. It’s a very tenuous situation there. Our groups in Port au Prince have to exercise extreme caution to get to the workshop. They want to work.
We have been putting in large orders since the beginning of the year on Haitian products. We watch the political environment not just for the ability to get product out of the country but also for the safety of our artisans. I have asked them what are their biggest needs? Please pray and please buy Haitian made products.
I woke up thinking of the 1 Corinthians verse. Do everything in love. I was remembering the various workshops I have visited in Haiti and the artisans I have met. They are just like us, they want to be able to provide for their families. I would ask that you pray for Haiti and a peaceful resolution. If you have to purchase a gift, would you please consider purchasing a Haitian made gift?
