Empowerment Project Update

THE EMPOWERMENT PROJECT UPDATE!! Imagine a young girl who is 14 and pregnant with nowhere to live and no job. To survive, many have no choice but to sell their bodies. This is the story of Redempta, she is one of the ladies who is a part of the Empowerment Project. She came to DuHope when her 2 sons were 8 and 12 and she couldn’t read or write. The father of her 2nd child is no longer with her because he stole from her. When she worked she gave him her money to put in the bank for her. She eventually found out he never did. He used it on himself. Because she couldn’t read or write, she wasn’t able to keep up with her finances. What I love about DuHope is that they teach the ladies how to read and write.

Redempta works for DuHope 4 days a week and needed another job to help make ends meet. She heard one of the staff needed someone to wash her clothes. She asked if she could do it. She saw that DuHope paid for someone to clean the workshop. She asked if she could do that too. Redempta wasn’t afraid of work, she wanted to be able to provide for her family. Because of the Empowerment Project, she is receiving business training and is attending a Budgeting and Savings Class. This is an important step before the team can help her write a business plan and mentor her on how to grow her business. While the process is slow, it is thorough, and most of all it is designed to be sustainable. Thank you for all who have donated to the Empowerment Project. You truly are changing lives of women who are leaving sex work in Kigali Rwanda and their children. We truly couldn’t do this without your support. To donate, click the link.
