Functional Art is the process of art being created for use. When we began designing The Home Collection with Atelier Calla in Haiti, we wanted each piece not only to serve the function in which we created it but we wanted it to be art when not in use. As we were designing the trivet, it truly morphed into art. I wanted to not only be able to use it for a hot dish but I also wanted it to look great hanging in the kitchen when not in use as a piece of art or even sitting on a coffee table with a planter on it as part of a design element. That truly changed the way we looked at this trivet. We wanted to balance the horn and mahogany together but not only that we wanted to give you an option to pair it with the bone and mahogany as art on a wall! Many of our kitchens have a lot of grays and whites with stainless appliances and can easily begin to look cold. We wanted to bring in mahogany and begin to add warmth to the kitchen. I drew out a design and the workshop created a product that I absolutely love! So guys- tell me what you think? Expected arrival date in The Marketplace? 1st - 2nd week of August.
