Our Collection Focuses on Haiti's Beauty and Resiliency

When I think of Haiti I think of warm breezes, beautiful beaches, friendly smiles, bright colors, and pineapples!! When we start the design process, we want to capture the feel of the country and honor the artisans. Many when they think of Haiti focus on the devastation of the 2010 earthquake, we choose to focus on the beauty; the beauty of the country and its people. When I was last there in 2015, I heard this being said a few times, there was beauty in the earthquake. What?!?! After the earthquake, people helped each other, “there was no black or white, no rich or poor. Everyone came together and truly became the church.” I am not going to downplay the earthquake, it truly was devastating. But when I was in Haiti at the 5 year anniversary, a theme emerged- please don’t pity Haiti but celebrate her resilience. I heard story after story of where people were at 5 pm when the earthquake started but the story always ended with how everyone banded together to help their neighbor. Out of devastation, God can create beauty. Our collection celebrates Haiti, her beauty, her resiliency, and her whimsy. I know what you guys are thinking, “What the heck are you doing with such crazy fabrics?!?!”  We are about to have some fun!! So pack your sunglasses, sunscreen, prepare yourself for 90 degree weather, we are heading to Haiti in 9 days!! You coming?!?!
