Try Iced Chai to beat the summer heat!
Iced Chai? I am sure the chai purists out there might be giving me side eye right now. Mallary, the Co-founder of Ziyada in India shared this recipe. She jokingly told me she enjoys it in the comfort of her home and still drinks it hot with her artisans even when it is 106 degrees outside! I am the Queen of Thai Iced Coffee so you know I had to try this! It is downright delicious!
When you go to many coffee houses, they use a powdered concentrate when fixing your chai. We will have none of that here. We are going natural and authentic. If you are looking for a fun new way to beat the heat and make your taste buds sing, you need to try this.
Iced Chai Recipe
Ingredients:
1 cinnamon stick
1 piece of fresh ginger crushed
7 cardamom pods slightly cracked
10 whole cloves
1/4 tsp freshly cracked pepper
1/2 tsp freshly ground nutmeg
10 black tea bags.
4.5 cups of water
1/2 cup of brown sugar
1 tbs honey
1 tsp vanilla
Directions:
Bring 4.5 cups of water to a boil.
Take it off the heat.
Put in all your spices and tea bags.
Steep for 10-20 mins. I did 15 mins.
Strain it and stir in brown sugar, honey and vanilla.
Let it cool. You have just now made your concentrate. This is good for 8 servings.
Mix 1 part concentrate with 1 part milk of your choice. I used skim milk.
Enjoy!
