What goes into ordering product?
“How do you place orders?” Sometimes it’s based on products our groups already make, other times it might be items I see while in their workshops. In some cases, I will design products with the groups that I believe you will love. There is no set way. It could be via email, a website, what’s app, Marco Polo, FB Messenger, IG DM, Skype,... whatever it takes to make it happen.
“How long does it take from when you place an order to when you receive it in The Marketplace?” It depends. If it’s a product they already make and they have a US warehouse, it could be a week. If it’s something that has to be made after an order is placed and is shipped from outside the US, it could take anywhere from 2 to 8 weeks. Customs issue? Add a few extra days. Throw in political unrest and you might need to add a couple more weeks to that.
“Why do you often say limited quantities?” Each product is handmade and sometimes the raw materials are limited. We also have to factor shipping into the equation. Depending on where it is coming from in the world, it could add weeks to a product delivery. I have to have a quantity cut off to ensure we can get some products here. So when I say limited numbers, I am not kidding.
“How do you know the stories to every product?” The Marketplace is over 8 years old and during that time we have offered thousands of products. I have purchased each piece and am connected to every story. This is actually one of my favorite things of what I do. I love sharing the story behind the product and the artisan groups. I honestly believe that’s what make The Marketplace so unique.
Thanks for all your questions. I will continue to feature the answers to the most asked questions in weeks to come. You want to know something about The Marketplace? Just ask!
