Large Basket Tote in Desert Sunrise by Sueno Canastas from Guatemala

Sold out

When I got my hands on the recycled plastic basket tote, I was blown away by craftmanship and how beautiful they are!  Handwoven out of recycled plastic, this basket takes a lot of skill to create. They start with a wooden form and then hand weave the plastic tread around it.

To create the Desert Sunrise, it takes 2 women 6 hours to make one! The reason that it takes so long is that use 8 different plastic thread colors and have to change them out every time they go around the form! 1 thing I would like to point out is that you can't see where one color thread starts and the other ends. Why? They don't tie it off, they melt the two colors together to create a smooth transition!

This would make the perfect beach bag. You know when go to the beach how sand gets everywhere? Well, when you pick this bag up, any sand that made it into your basket tote sifts out the bottom!

Heading to the Farmer's Market? Don't forget your ultimate market tote? It holds your fresh fruits and veggies like a champ. It's also the perfect companion for your grocery shopping. This fair trade tote is durable and can handle holding a lot of weight!

Going on a picnic? Load up the basket tote! Sandwiches, chips, drinks, plates, and a picnic blanket? No problem. She can handle it all!

The Large Basket Tote is the ULTIMATE summer bag!

Dimensions: 11.5 X 12 x 6.5 inches

Sueno means dream and Canasta means basket and this truly is a dream for the artisans to have a job making baskets. This little group with a huge heart from Guatemala is empowering young women and teenagers in their community where finding a job is extremely difficult. What I love is when you empower someone with a job, you light something within them. They start to believe in themselves and they start to dream, dream things are possible. One of their artisan's who is 16 started to believe in herself and is going back to school to finish her education. She is currently at a 2nd grade level. By purchasing a basket, you are giving them an opportunity to make their dreams become a reality.
