Lokta Journal by Guardian Village from Nepal

$12.00

These journals are beautifully handmade. They are made with lokta paper which is made by cleaning the bark of Lokta with sharp knives and chopping it into small pieces. These are then soaked in plain water for 5–6 hours and then cooked in a soaking solution of hot water and soda for 1–2 hours. Then it is washed in cold water. Finally, it is hammered and converted into pulp. The pulp is then poured into wooden frames for drying into sheets of paper and are dried under the sun. These make for a great place to dream, hope, and write, for you- or a friend!

Dimensions: 6.5" x 4.75"

Guardian Village Handicrafts is making a difference in the lives of these Nepali women and children. While the children are nurtured and given a high quality education, GVH is empowering women to make an honest, respectable living so they can properly care for their own children. The women are trained and equipped to produce beautiful hand beaded jewelry and accessories. As the handcrafted items are sold, the proceeds are returned to Nepal to provide the food, clothing, shelter, and education for the children who have been rescued from risk.
