Pack Mule Large Basket Tote by Sueno Canastas from Guatemala

This is a bag that we got an opportunity to design with Sueno. How did it come about? We had a customer contact us for a bigger basket tote. She said I have a couple of kids and I have so much to carry. She gave us an ideal measurement and we sent it off to the ladies. "We are gonna try it!" They built a new form and created this tote! We thought what should we name this? As a mom, I am the ultimate pack mule. Everyone seems to think mom should carry everything! LOL! Now you can keep it together and look pretty darn good doing it!

Made of recycled plastic thread, this basket takes a lot of work to create. They start with a form and they hand weave the plastic tread around it. It can take anywhere from 4-7 hours to make one depending on the artisan's skill level.

Dimensions: 18.5 x 13 x 6 inches

Sueno means dream and Canasta means basket and this truly is a dream for the artisans to have a job making baskets. This little group with a huge heart from Guatemala is empowering young women and teenagers in their community where finding a job is extremely difficult. What I love is when you empower someone with a job, you light something within them. They start to believe in themselves and they start to dream, dream things are possible. One of their artisan's who is 16 started to believe in herself and is going back to school to finish her education. She is currently at a 2nd grade level. By purchasing a basket, you are giving them an opportunity to make their dreams become a reality.
