Quinn Wooden Spoon by Azizi Life from Rwanda

$12.00

I had the opportunity to go to Muhanga and have the wood carvers teach me their trade and they taught me to make a Quinn wooden spoon. The 1st step is to take a large piece of musave wood and cut the length with a machete. Then we start carving the shape. Once that is done, it is then meticulously carved by hand. It takes about 4 hours to complete each spoon but the results are so worth it! The final step is to dip it in beeswax to preserve the beauty of the wood.

Fun fact: Using musave wood is a stainable way to carve. They cut branches to create each design versus cutting the tree down. This fast growing tree then continues to regenerate branches!

Cleaning recommendations: wash by hand in warm water and dish soap. Not recommended for the dishwasher.

Dimensions: 12 inches long

Azizi Life is a ministry in Rwanda that believes in empowering individuals with a hand up and not a hand out. They also believe in physical and spiritual wholeness for the entire community. As the artisans work together, they build a support system. In one community, there has been incredible reconciliation between the victims and the perpetrators of genocide. Know that when you purchase a beautiful Azizi Life product, that you are playing a role in the transformation happening in villages in Rwanda.

Empowering people. Changing lives.
